John
P. Marshall, formerly a shareholder in White & Allen, P.A.,
re-joined the firm in 2006. John practiced with White &
Allen, P.A. from 1989 until 2000, when he left the firm to
become Vice President and General Counsel for several
companies, including Tands, Inc. d/b/a Bojangles’, the
Bojangles’ franchisee for eastern North Carolina.
During his previous stint with White & Allen, P.A., John did
primarily civil litigation, with an emphasis on business and
construction litigation. He handled over 50 synthetic stucco
and residential home related construction litigation cases.
While serving as in house counsel for Tands and its related
entities, John was heavily involved in real estate
acquisition, real estate development and financing,
employment law matters and structuring business
transactions. He has also had the opportunity to be involved
in a complex real estate and corporate transaction in the
Bahamas.
Since returning to the firm, John has re-established his
civil litigation practice. In addition, he advises clients
in various business matters such as structuring business
transactions, real estate acquisition and general business
matters. John also maintains a mediation and arbitration
practice, often chosen as third neutral arbitrator.
Recent Engagements
- Represented a real estate developer in the governmental approval and
acquisition of 90 acres in the Bahamas
- Represented restaurant franchisee in the due diligence and acquisition
of numerous restaurant sites throughout eastern North Carolina
- Advised on employment law matters for 2000 employee company
- Represented a minority shareholder in a closely held corporation in a
Meiselman claim
John is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and is admitted to practice
in all courts in North Carolina. John focuses on several areas of practice with
White & Allen, P.A. John advises clients in
real estate acquisition and development matters
as well as
structuring business transactions. John is
also certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission as a Mediator
and provides mediation and arbitration services. In addition, John maintains a
civil litigation practice. John currently serves
the North Carolina State Bar as the chair of the Eighth Judicial District Bar
Candidate Committee. He is a member of the Litigation and Business Law sections
of the North Carolina Bar Association.
John has been active in the community. He is a past
president of the Lenoir Committee of One Hundred and the
Kinston Country Club. John currently serves on the Executive
Committee and the Board of the Lenoir Committee of One
Hundred, the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees
of Arendell Parrott Academy and the Board of the Kinston
Noon Rotary Club. He has served on the boards of the Lenoir
County United Way, the Lenoir Community Council for the Arts
and the Human Rights Advisory Council at Caswell Center.
John was born and raised in North Carolina. John obtained
his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from
Campbell University in
1984 and his law degree, magna cum laude, from the
Campbell University School of Law
in 1989. John enjoys golf, college basketball and travel.
