Mark is a partner in the firm's litigation department
where he has successfully represented several individuals
and corporate entities in both criminal and civil matters.
More specifically, Mark is experienced in representing
clients charged with criminal offenses in both state and
federal courts. Mark has represented clients faced with a
wide array of charges in state court including narcotics
possession and trafficking, violent assaults, firearm
charges, property crimes, and white-collar crimes including
embezzlement, corporate malfeasance and tax crimes. Also,
Mark is very experienced in handling all types of traffic
offenses and misdemeanors including DWI in state district
court.
In the federal arena, Mark has experience in representing
clients charged with various federal crimes such as
narcotics offenses, firearm offenses and a variety of
white-collar offenses including bank fraud and health care
fraud. Mark is admitted to practice before the United States
District Court - Eastern District of North Carolina and the
Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mark is also a member of
the Criminal Justice Act panel of attorneys for the Eastern
District of North Carolina.
In addition to Mark's criminal practice, he spends a
great deal of time representing business clients in matters
involving construction law, real property liens, creditor's
rights and commercial disputes. Further, Mark prosecutes and
defends a variety of civil claims involving negligence,
intentional torts and business torts.
Mark is a member of the National Association of Criminal
Defense Lawyers, the North Carolina Bar Association
(Criminal Justice Section Member) and currently serves as an
officer for the Eighth Judicial District Bar Association as
well as the Lenoir County Bar Association.
Prior to entering private practice at White & Allen,
P.A., Mark was an Assistant District Attorney for the 4th
Judicial District of North Carolina (Sampson, Jones, Duplin
and Onslow counties) where he negotiated and tried hundreds
of cases. Mark is admitted to practice in all trial and
appellate courts in North Carolina.
Mark grew up in Clinton, North Carolina and was educated
in the Sampson County and Clinton City Public Schools. He
graduated from North Carolina State University
where he
received a B.A. in History. Mark received his J.D. from the
Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in
Birmingham, Alabama. While at Cumberland, Mark was a Dean's
List Award recipient and a member of the Simms Moot Court
Board and the Cumberland Trial Advocacy Board.
Mark is married and he and his wife live in Kinston with
their beautiful little girl and their three dogs. Mark
attends St. Mary's Episcopal Church where he has served as a
youth sponsor and is a member of the Kinston Rotary Club.
Also, Mark has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of
Lenoir County, the United Way of Lenoir County and the
Caswell Center Human Rights Committee. Currently, Mark
serves as a member on the Pride of Kinston Board and the
Lenoir Committee of 100.
