Retired White & Allen Attorney Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Thomas J. White, III, an attorney who retired on December 31, 2012, from White & Allen, P.A., was inducted into the N.C. Bar Association’s General Practice Hall of Fame at its Annual Meeting on June 22, 2017.

White, a native of Kinston, graduated from UNC School of Law in 1966, receiving the Phi Delta Phi Outstanding Graduate Award. Following a clerkship with Federal District Judge John D. Larkins Jr., Thomas joined his father and John R. Hooten, forming White, Hooten & White Law Firm in 1967, then co-founded White, Allen, Hooten & Hines. He served as president of the Lenoir County Bar Association earlier in his career and continues as an active member, as well as in the Eighth Judicial District Bar and the North Carolina Bar Association.

In 1993, White opened his separate practice, White Law Offices, P.A., and became a Certified Mediator in 1998. In 2002, he rejoined White & Allen, P.A., engaging in general practice and increased bar association and local civic activities, including the Lenoir County Historical Association and serving on the Lenoir Community College Board of Trustees, currently is its Ethics Liaison. He is a member of The Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, The Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and the Southeastern Admiralty Lawyers Institute.

Since retiring from White & Allen at the end of 2012, White has pursued his goals of developing further his mediation practice, engaging more in state and local bar and civic activities and spending more time with family. Serving on the NCBA Professionalism Committee is an enjoyable current endeavor. White and his wife, Nancy reside in Atlantic Beach however, he continues to maintain an office in Kinston. He has three daughters and five grandchildren, all of whom reside in Raleigh. He and Mrs. White are members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kinston and also attend St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Beaufort.
