After 43 years of service, Real Estate Attorney, Joseph S. Bower retired from White & Allen, P.A. to focus on enjoying time with family. We deeply miss our valued colleague and friend, but clients can trust that Joe’s experience, ethics, and high standards are still deeply rooted in our real estate practice. We continue to be one of ENC’s most trusted firms for real estate matters, just as Joe Bower would expect of us.
Throughout his career, Joe focused his practice on residential and commercial real estate law. He served as counsel to individuals and families, but also represented business entities like the Kinston Housing Authority, North Lenoir Water Corporation, Deep Run Water Corporation, the Homebuilders’ Association of Kinston and the Kinston Board of Realtors. In addition, Joe handled matters involving title claims litigation, foreclosures, business and corporate law.
Joe was born in Winchester, Virginia.
Joe attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1973. Three years later, he earned his M.B.A. degree from East Carolina University where he was awarded a graduate fellowship in economics.
In 1979, Joe was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar after graduating cum laude from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
In 2015, Joe was named as “Legal Elite” in the area of Real Estate by Business North Carolina.
In 2010, Martin Dale Hubble® Lawyers.com AV® Preeminent™ rating award was given to Joe for both legal ability and ethical standards.
During his career, Joe was licenced to practice before all North Carolina State Courts and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
- He was a member and past president of the Lenoir County and Eighth Judicial District Bar Associations and also served as a member of the North Carolina and American Bar Associations.
- Joe served as a past chairman of the Eighth Judicial District Bar Candidates Committee, and was actively involved with the North Carolina Land Title Association and the Real Property and Business Sections of the North Carolina Bar Association.
- Joe was a member of the Lenoir Committee of 100 and served on its board of directors
- Represented a developer of a strip shopping center in a conduit loan financing transaction.
- Represented a fast food restaurant franchisee in a multi-site loan financing transaction using a single entity bankruptcy remote limited liability company.
- Represented several non-profit corporations in loan financing transactions with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development with respect to multiple elderly housing apartments.
